Last week, there were various reports of CastCatcher's Internet Radio app being declined by the App Store, because the app ate up too much bandwidth, but it turns out Apple is allowing a (v1.3 update) because it takes up the same bandwidth as other radio apps in the App Store.
Some of the specs:
- Allows you to adjust the buffer size
- Some AAC+ support (only in 2.0.2)
- IceCast metadata fixed crash when users download "invalid" playlist files
CastCatcher's Developer decided to shoot over to Mac Rumors to claim that this may be a "mistake" for allowing the app into App Store, but he's more than happy with the results
There are thousands of rejected apps going Apple's way every day, and their choice to reject it may have just been a mistake, but then again, it may have been worthy?!. We don't really know yet, but maybe with all this bandwidth being used, Apple will get sued once again for allowing so much data usage!!
Are you an iPhone Addict? Do you frequently scramble for a power outlet to keep your iPhone alive? Has there ever been a time that you "almost" dropped your iPhone or 3G? If so, then the Incase Power Slider battery case for the iPhone 3G will be your perfect solution!! It's just like a normal iPhone case, with a twist!!. It also doubles the life of your iPhone battery, while the iPhone is in it's case!! Perfect solution for anyone on the go, or constantly checking e-mail!!
This new "battery" case has a built-in 1,220mAh battery, which allows you to recharge your iPhone 3G without cables, including up to 330 hours of stand-by time, 26 hours of your favorite music, 5 hours on your favorite 3G network, 10 hours on any Edge connection, 7 hours video recording, 5 hours 3G internet cruising, and finally 6 hours of WiFi connectivity.
You know how the MacBook Pro has the built in LED charge display? Well so does this case!!, but it's not coming out until November 28th, and should be right around the wonderfully high price of $100. So in conclusion, if you feel like shelling out the money, you'll get an awesome product that keeps your awesome product alive for much much longer!!
Apple has another lawsuit on their hands this morning, because of their defective iPhone 3G, which they have been putting off for a while now, and continuing to sell to consumers worldwide. The iPhone 3G has been having some construction issues, mainly with the plastic backing cracking and chipping around the camera lens, and power on/off button, but Apple has yet to go about fixing these problems.
Koschitzki has claimed that he is "bumped" from the 3G network quite frequently, among various others who paid for the iPhone/service, now to get inferior results.
Many others have reported cracked housings, mainly around the camera lens, and the on/off switch located at the top of the iPhone, which is extremely noticable in the white iPhone 3G. Even though there are faults in the design, and network, AT&T and Apple continues to sell the iPhone 3G without taking the proper action to fix the defective units and service.
Only time will tell what is to come of this....
It looks as though someone on the inside leeked out the news that Wal-Mart and Sam's Club will be selling the iPhone 3G starting December 28th.
A report (the boy genius), has been informed of the Wal-Mart launch with details such as:
- Wal-Mart to be selling iPhone 3G Dec. 28th in SOME locations
- About 2,500 locations will carry the iPhone 3G
- Some stores will recieve live demo units, like the ones at AT&T stores
- 69 Sam's Club locations will offer iPhone 3G's
It turns out Apple WILL let other's sell their pride and joy, when they were supposed to be strict on just letting AT&T handle these precious tools in the beginning. AT&T will be by little brother (wal-mart)'s side as they launch the 3G, and all employees will have their hands full for a little while!!
Wal-Mart has communicated the following launch plans and execution timeline to their employees:
- New and existing customers in good standing can purchase iPhone 3G with a 2 year contract
- iPhone 3G transactions only will be processed through POS.com, not the kiosk
Execution Timeline:
- 12/2 – 12/5: AT&T / Wal-Mart MEM Classroom Training for Store Leads
- 12/3 – 12/19: AT&T In-Store Training
- 12/26 – 12/27: AT&T In-Store Refresher Training
- 12/28: Nationwide Launch
- 12/28 – 12/30: Wal-Mart and AT&T War Room Support
I personally love my MacBooks, but sometimes get frustrated because it doesn't have that "numeric keypad" on the side, especially when i'm typing in Skype phone numbers, or paying my bills with a credit card!
Balmuda has come up with an amazing software called Numberkey Connect, which you must install on your Mac in order for this to work, and then the Numberkey app is downloaded to your iPhone from the App Store. Their software allows you to use your iPhone or iPod Touch as a wireless numeric keypad for your MacBook. They have only released this for the Mac as of yet, but i'm sure it'll be on it's way to Windows in no time!
iPhone 2G Firmware:
iPhone 3G Firmware
iTunes
Pwnage Tool (unlock/ jailbreak using Mac)
WinPwn (unlock/ jailbreak using Windows)
QuickPwn (unlock/ jailbreak using Mac/ Windows)
ZiPhone (unlock/ jailbreak older firmware)
It looks like Apple's lawyers have gone after www.themonkeysball.com, and officially closed it down, as of Nov. 11th. They were facing "mass copyright infringement", by distributing cracked .ipa's (iPhone Applications), allowing users to download these apps for free, instead of going through the App Store to get them.
SBSettings 1.0 has been released with many new updates, and a redesigned interface, allowing the user to *theme* their own SBSettings into what they want.
It appears that the iPhone Dev team has made word of this so called "daemon" underlying in Apple's firmware 2.2 update, giving it the power to possibly stop the iPhone 3G from becoming unlocked!.
It looks as though AT&T is going through with their plan to allow people to tether their iPhone 3G to their computer/ laptop via a wireless connection, but there's a catch. A $30 A MONTH CATCH!!
As of earlier today, the RIP Dev Team has posted the newest updates coming to Installer. This is what's gonna be available in the new version.. Even Though I regularly use Cydia, I'm not sure how this new *Installer is going to fold out upon iPhone users... We can only hope for the best..
If this happens to you... FOLLOW THESE STEPS!!
BEFORE WE BEGIN
1.First Make sure YOU ARE NOT Connected via USB to your Mac/PC
2.Make Sure iPhone is OFF (Hold Home and Sleep/Wake button in unison for about 5 Seconds)
Step 1:
Turn Your iPod/iPhone on and LEAVE IT ON for about 15 minutes until the Screen Dims and you see dimmed boxes at the bottom of the screen. BOXES ONLY HAPPEN WITH SOME BOOT SCREENS
Step 2:
Turn the iPhone/iPod OFF
Step 3:
Then Turn it on. (DO NOT CONNECT IT TO YOUR COMPUTER YET) and in EXACTLY 5 Seconds Connect it to your Computer. It should boot up and show your Springboard.
*******NEW*** METHOD 2:
Must have ssh installed
1. turn ipod or iphone off
2. connect cable
3. turn on ipod iphone
4. listen for ding dong (window) or what ever the mac sound is
5. ssh to your ipod iphone
6. goto /var/mobile/
7. rename Applications to Applications2
8. wait 5 second and your springboard will pop up
9. now rename Applications back and restart
I personally had to restore my 2G 2.1 completely because of that MobileInstallationPatch...
Be sure to back up your cydia apps with APTBackup, and Backup everything onto itunes RIGHT NOW!!.... just incase..
hope this helped anyone out!!
Japan is now loving the (i) life, with the new DLP Projector attachment coming to Japan's Apple stores Dec. 1st. Texas Instruments has just released word that this new DLP projector will be able to project up to 8.5 ft away, with an image at 60" !!!..
Well now, I know I've had my fair share of *customizing* my home screen, and trying to get my own custom theme going on, but it never really works out the way I want it to?!
It looks like the Bluetooth feature is almost unlocked for the iPhone, according to the guys at ispazio.net. They recieved an e-mail from a guy claiming to have a project ongoing to unlock the Bluetooth of their iPhone, and then release to public once the bugs are worked out!
Recently, AT&T decided to offer it's customers free wifi at over 17,000 wifi hotspot locations, but it's not that easy. They would have to first "apply" for the hotspot, and get an e-mail from AT&T stating that the hotspot would be available for 24 hours. So in turn, it's actually more complicated to get onto the hotspots than they make it out to be.
A company called Devicescape has released an Application that allows those iPhone users to log onto those hotspots quickly and easily, without having to go through the process of manually joining each hotspot every time they come into contact, but rather, have the iPhone do it for them!
Ralph De La Vega (SEO of AT&T), has submitted what he believes to be the future of the iPhone, at the web 2.0 summit on Wednesday. I truly believe this will happen, with just about everything he has said!
"Before the iPhone wakes you up in the morning with its alarm clock, De la Vega says, it will have already loaded all of your daily news feeds onto the phone. It will also have already sent a wireless message to your coffee maker to get the coffee ready. While you’re sitting there drinking your coffee, he says, you might decide that you’d rather read your news on the TV screen; so with a wave of the device toward the TV, de la Vega says, you’ll send your news feeds wirelessly from the phone to the TV for reading.
Now you leave the house, and use your iPhone to lock the door on the way out. You get in the car. The iPhone starts your car. On the way to work, the iPhone continues reading your news to you using its text-to-speech function.
Later on, at your office, the iPhone initiates a conference call between you and two potential customers in Japan. On the call, when you speak English, the iPhone translates it to Japanese so that your potential customers can understand you. When they answer in Japanese, the iPhone converts their speech into English so you can understand them."
I honestly do believe that the future of the iPhone will look a lot like he has stated, if not better!!. I've even been looking for a method to unlock my car via bluetooth!!. Maybe someday!
There is a new mobile blogging app out called iBlogger, which I find to be very useful when I don't have my desktop computer sitting on my lap in my wife's car!!.
All you have to do is download the App from the App Store, add an account (via Blogger, Blojsom, Drupal, Wordpress...etc), and you're mobile blogging!!
It's really convenient, being able to access prior posts, and add new posts, all from your iPhone!.
I personally give this a 9/10 because it's designed to intricately, the only fallback is that you cannot upload photo's via Blogger yet!!..
Leave a comment, tell me what you think!
Earlier, I had wrote that Jon Stephenson von Tetzchner, Co-founder/ CEO of Opera told New York Times in an interview that:
"Opera’s engineers have developed a version of Opera Mini that can run on an Apple iPhone, but Apple won’t let the company release it because it competes with Apple’s own Safari browser."
With this being said, John Gruber believes that the statement by CEO of Opera might not be a direct quote by him but something that was "reworded" by New York Times reporter, Saul Hansell.
He explains:
Since Opera Mini for other mobile devices is developed using Java which isn't supported on the iPhone, Opera would have to port Opera Mini to C and Objective-C APIs to be able to submit their iPhone app to the App Store.
However, even if Opera manages to develop Opera Mini for the iPhone, which abides by the iPhone's SDK agreement, there is still possibility of it getting rejected.
There has been no official statement from Apple or Opera to clarify this situation.Keep checking up on www.iphonehacksnmods.com/ and I'll keep posting as soon as I hear the latest and greatest news!!
Anybody have any ideas?!?! What do you think of this situation?
Apple probably fixed the Safari issues in firmware 2.2, but for us with 2.1, we're still dealing with our browser crashing quite often!
Here's some tips to help with the issue: "NOTE: these aren't permanent fixes"
1. Reboot the iPhone (Hold home & lock for about 8 seconds, until the apple logo appears, then let go), it'll reset your apps.
2. Clear the Cache, Cookies, & History. (Go to settings-> Safari-> tap Clear Cache, Clear Cookies, & Clear History.
3. Some people also say that turning off Javascript stops crashing, but i'm not too fond of surfing with Javascript off!?!?
This isn't a permanent fix for Safari crashing, but hopefully Apple has put some thought into Firmware 2.2, and we won't have to deal with this anymore!!
If your browser crashes, Comment me, and tell me if these fixes helped you at all, or if you've found a permanent method, Let me know!!!.
You just download the App, browse any sites you regularly would (through the app), and it will come up with RSS Feed choices to add to your (Feeds).
It's pretty cool, because I like to stay on top of the Apple news, and it's getting me a lot of useful information!!..
Firmware version 2.2 Beta 1 was seeded to developers just over 2 days ago but is still succeptible to Pwnage (pwnage tool/ QuickPwn/ WinPwn).
The dev team has also stated that there is some sort of Daemon underlying in Firmware 2.2, and haven't yet released what it meant.... ?!?!
While this prove's the Dev-team's abilities, we're still waiting on the 3G unlock, which will prove their skills to even Steve Jobs himself!!
Right click on the song you are going to make into a ringer and select “Get Info.”
Go to the options tab and go down to the “Start Time” and “Stop Time” check boxes.
Right click on your newly “clipped” song and select “Convert Selection to AAC.” The song will be re-encoded using the start and stop times determined (If your menu item does not read “Convert Selection to AAC” and reads “Convert Selection to MP3″ (or some other format) please go to iTunes > Preferences > Advanced > Importing and change the “Import Using” drop down menu to “AAC Encoder”).
After the song is done encoding navigate to your iTunes Music folder, locate your song, and drag it to your desktop.
Go back the song on your desktop and right click on your song and chose “Get info.”
After the extension is changed simply double click on the file to add it to your iTunes library under the ringtones section.
I've managed to create some pretty catchy tunes, and if you have any problems, don't be shy to ask, just comment, and i'll let you know ASAP!!...
A lot of publisher's believe this won't actually show the true rating of the application, because most people will just try to hurry through it, and hit 1 if they didn't like it, or 5 if it was ok. Either way, it's probably not going to be too accurate rating developer's applications.
In my eyes, this won't help to "Rate" any application, as 98.6% of people won't truly recognize this attribute.
Some of this may be attributed to their inability to watch Live TV, streaming onto their iPhone, or Emoji icon's (icon's used in messaging), not being available. But with firmware update 2.2 on it's way, we're expected to see these Emoji icon's pop up, and a few other upgrades too!!
This TV-tuner card, may be what Japan needs to boost up their iPhone sales, and this unit is expected to be sale for around $100. It will include an internal Wi-Fi module and an external antenna for tuning into 1seg mobile broadcasting service available in Japan. The add-on card, which will also serve as an extended battery pack, will stream live television to the iPhone over Wi-Fi through an iPhone-app that will be available for free on the App Store. The TV-Tuner card add-on is expected to be slightly more compact than the iPhone but a bit thicker and lighter at about 2.8 ounces and measures approximately 2.0 x 3.5 x 0.6 inches.
Hopefully, these two things will help boost iPhone sales in Japan, but it may not be very well liked, having to carry this extra *unit* around with your iPhone. Maybe the solution will be bringing Adobe Flash to the iPhone, seeing as how some websites cannot be seen because of this, and we might just see one pop up in the app store sooner or later!
Opera Could have been better than iPhone's Safari browser, leading to the rejection, or because it was using it's own Javascript interpreter, which is unallowed by Apple SDK rules.
Maybe in the future, Mr.Saurik will release Opera Mini into Cydia, and we'll all enjoy the new browser on our jailbroken iPhones!!, but then again, we're all waiting to see what happens.
Steve Jobs probably feels as though it was direct competition to his Safari Browser, and that's probably why it was rejected.
Hopefully in the future, Cydia and Installer will release Opera Mini browser, and/or Firefox. Both being open-source, there's a lot more potential, but then again, it may be too hard to port over?!
Anyone have any ideas?
BigBoss and Ipodtouchmaster released v0.91 of SBSettings on Cydia for download earlier today.
You can take a screenshot of whatever you're viewing, by holding the home button, and clicking the sleep button !!!
Turns out to be pretty useful to me!!...
1. Tilt your iPhone to adjust your view to see mountainous terrain.
Check it out, tell me what you think!!!. I personally love all the new gadgets I can get for my iphone, and I love to hear comments from EVERYONE!!
Now, you'll want to search the internet for SIP Providers to use over your 3G/Edge connection, and find the one that suits you best!!.. I personally love Skype because it doesn't lag, and sounds just as good, if not better than my T-mobile Voice did!!
Sign up for an SIP Provider/Skype/Truphone, and then download Fring/Truphone onto your iPhone via App Store. You should be able to link your SIP/Skype to Fring, and Truphone is self-explanatory!!
Whether you're using T-Mobile / AT&T / Cingular ... or any other GSM network that uses the EDGE network, you're in luck .... because your iPhone has the capability to make calls using that cheap internet connection !!!
4. Signup with a voip provider (Skype is by far the best !!)
--- You can signup with Skype by CLICKING HERE , it's $2.95 a month for 10,000 minutes!!
5. Download the (Skype) app through the App Store
6. Open the App , enter your account information, from when you signed up..
7. You're all set to use Voip over EDGE using an iPhone !!!
That's it ! Now, you officially have 10,000 minutes a month .... for only $2.95 a month!!! , AND, when you're in wi-fi ... you can use Skype to make calls, and save your t-mobile or at&t minutes!

About 5 months ago, I had a Windows mobile smartphone, and loved to customize/customize/customize, but it started to look old, bulky, and outdated compared to the new iPhone...
Eventually, I started saving up for one (about $300), and looked everywhere, but couldn't find the "virgin" that I had been trying for.... You know, not the iPhone that the 14 year old boy had bought just to hack the system, mod the hardware, and then sell to you *as new*, but that iPhone the doctor bought for his on-call time, but never really used...
That wasn't working out too amazing, so I started searching on www.craigslist.com/ and started finding these classifieds for the 8gb & 16gb 3g iPhone for like $200-$300 IN MY AREA, so of course, I was hounding these people to get the new iPhone 3g, (keep in mind, these things sell for $600-$900 unlocked on ebay), and nobody was ever returning my e-mails..
Suddenly, I started recieving all this spam, and so I started searching for people that had pictures attached, with phone numbers, and FINALLY I FOUND ONE!!!. It was located about an hour away from me, and the rain was coming down pretty hard, so I decided to call the guy, tell him i'd be there in an hour, with $275, and he chose to hold onto it while I was coming...
I just bought this new car, with bald front tires, and took off to get my new iPhone, got up to highway speeds, and went to go around a large turn when my car just kept sliding forward, instead of turning.....so I had to go back....
Finally, I went to my wife's office, borrowed her car, and as I was walking out the door, a guy that i had met 3 months prior came running up (while it's still pouring rain), and said he was selling a new iPhone...so I asked how much, and he said $200....I called the guy I was getting my phone from, told him to sell it to someone else, and bought this virgin iPhone.....and ever since then...I'm an addict!!!
When you buy a used iPhone, make sure all aspects of the screen work properly...and make sure there aren't any dead spots... IT STINKS!!
It's not that hard to get it jailbroken, and unlocked (easy hacks) and when that's complete, use Cydia to install all of the applications that you want...or get free apps from the app store!!!I learned how to cut my bill down, using t-mobile, WAY DOWN, (skype), and learned how to make this thing into EVERYTHING I WANTED..It's my modem for internet (for my computer), my phone, e-mail, mobile internet, youtube device, mp3 player, GPS Navigation unit....AND SO MUCH MORE!!!..In my eyes, everyone should have an iPhone!!!....(with t-mobile)
Hope I helped any *non*believers

So, as you all may know, the Dev team is one step closer to unlocking (hack to allow use of non-AT&T sim-cards in iPhone) the 3g iPhone....Whereas many other's have used another method to unlock the hardware, called "SIM Unlock" or "the dirty method".....
Basically, if you don't know a whole lot about the iPhone, or you're new to hacking, there are 2 sides to hacking this device...Firstly, Jailbreaking is where they get into the Operating System (computer side of iphone), and allow us to have write/read access to the file system. This also allows us to install applications that aren't in the App Store!!... Very handy
Secondly , Unlocking is hacking the Cellular side of the phone, and allow to use other types of service providers, besides AT&T...Many users love t-mobile's service!!
The dev team already figured out the Jailbreak side of this process, now we wait while they keep trudging toward an unlocked 3G!!!
Hopefully, Jobs will drop the price of the new 3g right before christmas, and we all can get our t-mobile service on the 3g network with a sweet new iPhone!!!
So, now there is a patch that users can Winscp into their iPhone to allow use of Fring over their Edge/3g data connection...I can't tell you where to get the patch, but here's the instructions on how to use it!!:
1.You must be running a Jailbroken iPhone / iTouch
2.Install original Fring on iPhone via iTunes App Store.
3.Now SSH into your iPhone / iTouch; remember root / alpine
4.Find Fring.app under root var/mobile/applications
5.To find the Fring.app, you then need to click on the most recently installed folder which will be your original Fring and inside should be the Fring.app
6.On your computer, rename the modified 3g Fring .api to .zip; it will now open in winzip or mac compatible unzipper e.g. zipeg
7.Delete the original Fring.app on your iPhone / iTouch
8.Copy the extracted 3g Fring.app from the zip folder across to your iPhone / iTouch either via the WinSCP (PC) or Yummy FTP (Mac).
9.Now you need to set the permissions. This is easy so please do make it more complcated for yourselves. ALL the files within the 3g Fring.app replacement must be set to 755 (Yummy) or 0755 (WinSCP). You should see all the files being altered as it goes through the process of changing the permissions.
When I tried it, it worked immediately after changing the permissions without a reboot but if it does not work then please reboot the iPhone.Good luck everyone!!
Looking to save a few of your T-Mobile minutes ??
Can't stand only having 400 minutes a month with AT&T ??
We have a solution !!! You'll be able to get 10,000 minutes a month.... for $2.95 !!!
Basically, you'll need a Jailbroken iPhone , and we'll set it up for wifi calling !!!
It doesn't matter if you have an iPhone 2G or iPhone 3G .... either way, your iPhone will be set up so you can use it for wifi calling!!!
First off, what we're going to do is go into Cydia , and download (TrickerThreeG, and / or, Voipover3G) ....
Next, you're going to want to sign up with a VOIP service provider.... (my personal preference is Skype, because they have thousands of servers, and it's RARE that you get anything less than perfect calling....) To sign up with Skype, click here!
Now, what you're going to do is download the Skype app, from the app store.... open the app, and type in your account information (username/password) , and from there on out, you should be all set up to make wifi calls with your iPhone !!!
This is BY FAR the easiest way to get your iPhone 3G wifi calling , rolling !!!

When people hop over to www.wal-mart.com/ they'll be automatically redirected to an "iPhone" style of the web site if they're on an iPhone.
After you're on the site, you can check out products, or services, on an intricate site. You can see online products, as well as the stores that have your item in stock.
The only "downside" is that you can't buy stuff on the iPhone site, and get redirected to the normal www.wal-mart.com/ to purchase items.
You can check out the site, and find the store that's closest to you, all through the "iPhone ready" site. Check it out, and let me know what you think!!.
The battery pack will give you up to 24 hours of talk time/ 72 hours of music/ 20 hours of video/ & 31 days of standby time, as well as a Flash Light for emergency use and darker photos, and an extra USB port to charge more than 1 device
This Battery pack/ flash pack is available for $79.95 from FastMac, and sounds like a great invention!!
Zambrini said that the bug doesn't damage the iPhone internally, and he's waiting to contact Apple's security response team. An Apple spokesman was informed of this bug, from Forbes.com, and they're still waiting for a comment?!
It's pretty obvious that Zambrini can't stay away from the (iPhone spotlight), even though he's raking in $10,000 a day from Ziphone, and $4000 a month from ad's on his site. He even e-mailed Steve Jobs about the situation, and put in an application at the same time, but hasn't heard anything from Apple as of yet.
Forbes.com now says that he's not trying to work for Apple, but rather, continue on his iPhone unlocking tool!!!
You never know who's going to get in the spotlight next??
