Last week, there were various reports of CastCatcher's Internet Radio app being declined by the App Store, because the app ate up too much bandwidth, but it turns out Apple is allowing a (v1.3 update) because it takes up the same bandwidth as other radio apps in the App Store.

Some of the specs:

  • Allows you to adjust the buffer size
  • Some AAC+ support (only in 2.0.2)
  • IceCast metadata fixed crash when users download "invalid" playlist files

CastCatcher's Developer decided to shoot over to Mac Rumors to claim that this may be a "mistake" for allowing the app into App Store, but he's more than happy with the results

There are thousands of rejected apps going Apple's way every day, and their choice to reject it may have just been a mistake, but then again, it may have been worthy?!. We don't really know yet, but maybe with all this bandwidth being used, Apple will get sued once again for allowing so much data usage!!

Are you an iPhone Addict? Do you frequently scramble for a power outlet to keep your iPhone alive? Has there ever been a time that you "almost" dropped your iPhone or 3G? If so, then the Incase Power Slider battery case for the iPhone 3G will be your perfect solution!! It's just like a normal iPhone case, with a twist!!. It also doubles the life of your iPhone battery, while the iPhone is in it's case!! Perfect solution for anyone on the go, or constantly checking e-mail!!

This new "battery" case has a built-in 1,220mAh battery, which allows you to recharge your iPhone 3G without cables, including up to 330 hours of stand-by time, 26 hours of your favorite music, 5 hours on your favorite 3G network, 10 hours on any Edge connection, 7 hours video recording, 5 hours 3G internet cruising, and finally 6 hours of WiFi connectivity.

You know how the MacBook Pro has the built in LED charge display? Well so does this case!!, but it's not coming out until November 28th, and should be right around the wonderfully high price of $100. So in conclusion, if you feel like shelling out the money, you'll get an awesome product that keeps your awesome product alive for much much longer!!

Apple has another lawsuit on their hands this morning, because of their defective iPhone 3G, which they have been putting off for a while now, and continuing to sell to consumers worldwide. The iPhone 3G has been having some construction issues, mainly with the plastic backing cracking and chipping around the camera lens, and power on/off button, but Apple has yet to go about fixing these problems.

Avi Koschitzki has filed a 23 page lawsuit in a New York district court, which states that the owners iPhone 3G demands too much power from the 3G network, therefore kicking the user offline at greatly needed times, or at least downgrading to the Edge connection when 3G wasn't available. The 3G bandwidths are becoming highly overloaded, based upon AT&T and Apple iPhone 3G sales.

Koschitzki has claimed that he is "bumped" from the 3G network quite frequently, among various others who paid for the iPhone/service, now to get inferior results.

Many others have reported cracked housings, mainly around the camera lens, and the on/off switch located at the top of the iPhone, which is extremely noticable in the white iPhone 3G. Even though there are faults in the design, and network, AT&T and Apple continues to sell the iPhone 3G without taking the proper action to fix the defective units and service.

Only time will tell what is to come of this....

It looks as though someone on the inside leeked out the news that Wal-Mart and Sam's Club will be selling the iPhone 3G starting December 28th.

A report (the boy genius), has been informed of the Wal-Mart launch with details such as:

  • Wal-Mart to be selling iPhone 3G Dec. 28th in SOME locations
  • About 2,500 locations will carry the iPhone 3G
  • Some stores will recieve live demo units, like the ones at AT&T stores
  • 69 Sam's Club locations will offer iPhone 3G's

It turns out Apple WILL let other's sell their pride and joy, when they were supposed to be strict on just letting AT&T handle these precious tools in the beginning. AT&T will be by little brother (wal-mart)'s side as they launch the 3G, and all employees will have their hands full for a little while!!

Wal-Mart has communicated the following launch plans and execution timeline to their employees:

- iPhone 3G will be available in-store only beginning 12/28/08
- New and existing customers in good standing can purchase iPhone 3G with a 2 year contract
- iPhone 3G transactions only will be processed through POS.com, not the kiosk

Execution Timeline:
- 12/2 – 12/5: AT&T / Wal-Mart MEM Classroom Training for Store Leads
- 12/3 – 12/19: AT&T In-Store Training
- 12/26 – 12/27: AT&T In-Store Refresher Training
- 12/28: Nationwide Launch
- 12/28 – 12/30: Wal-Mart and AT&T War Room Support

I personally love my MacBooks, but sometimes get frustrated because it doesn't have that "numeric keypad" on the side, especially when i'm typing in Skype phone numbers, or paying my bills with a credit card!

Balmuda has come up with an amazing software called Numberkey Connect, which you must install on your Mac in order for this to work, and then the Numberkey app is downloaded to your iPhone from the App Store. Their software allows you to use your iPhone or iPod Touch as a wireless numeric keypad for your MacBook. They have only released this for the Mac as of yet, but i'm sure it'll be on it's way to Windows in no time!

iPhone 2G Firmware:

iPhone 3G Firmware

iTunes

Pwnage Tool (unlock/ jailbreak using Mac)

WinPwn (unlock/ jailbreak using Windows)

QuickPwn (unlock/ jailbreak using Mac/ Windows)

ZiPhone (unlock/ jailbreak older firmware)

It looks like Apple's lawyers have gone after www.themonkeysball.com, and officially closed it down, as of Nov. 11th. They were facing "mass copyright infringement", by distributing cracked .ipa's (iPhone Applications), allowing users to download these apps for free, instead of going through the App Store to get them.

The Monkey's Ball is officially down for good now, and people are talking... will Appulo.us be next?

I have personally used Appulo.us since it came out, and as of yet, there hasn't been any complaints against them (that we know of). Appulo.us is extremely easy to use, and seems to have 10k+ pageviews per day!

With Apple's legal team fired up, who knows what will happen next...

SBSettings 1.0 has been released with many new updates, and a redesigned interface, allowing the user to *theme* their own SBSettings into what they want.

Some of the changes that came along with the SBSettings 1.0 release are:
1. Brigntness toggle/ slider added
2. Themes added (8 as of now)
3. Dock added (allowing you to customize your dock and remove apps from your Springboard dock
4. SBSettings cannot be opened from the lock screen
5. Home button also closes the window, instead of just the little [x]

It seems to be working out pretty good so far, and it's extremely user- friendly !!

Any thoughts on the new release??

It appears that the iPhone Dev team has made word of this so called "daemon" underlying in Apple's  firmware 2.2 update, giving it the power to possibly stop the iPhone 3G from becoming unlocked!.

The Dev team is persuading people to "hold off" from updating to firmware 2.2, if they're planning on unlocking their iPhone 3G anytime soon, until they can come up with a counter-attack. As this has been noted, we're still not sure exactly what the firmware update will bring to the hacking community.

It looks as though AT&T is going through with their plan to allow people to tether their iPhone 3G to their computer/ laptop via a wireless connection, but there's a catch. A $30 A MONTH CATCH!!

The tethering plan will be $30 a month, added onto another plan they're planning on rolling out pretty soon, and they're going to cap the data transfer to 5GB per month, and if you exceed that amount, they'll terminate the tethering connection.

With this being said, another downside may be that iTunes may be required every time you go to cnonnect to the internet, making it a lengthy process!!..

The wireless speed will give you 30kbps in GPRS areas, while getting about 1000kbps in 3G areas !!. They're not even telling us when this will be available, so make sure you subscribe to our e-mails or feeds, and we'll keep you updated!!

I personally use my *unlocked/ jailbroken iPhone 3G from France (gotta love ebay) as a wireless modem for my computer as it is!!. PdaNet was developed for people to be able to tether their iPhone to their computer, but it's only available through Cydia (aka Jailbroken iPhone).

As of earlier today, the RIP Dev Team has posted the newest updates coming to Installer. This is what's gonna be available in the new version..

  • Added user-driven ratings. You are encouraged to submit your votes for various packages. Once more data will be collected (in a few days), that will be reflected on the Featured Page.
  • SpringBoard is no longer terminated after the software was installed or removed.
  • Proxies are (again) supported. The support was broken after we moved to libcurl.
  • Introduced download timeouts (again) that were disabled after the move to libcurl.
  • Reworked many parts of the engine in an effort to get rid of the occasional GUI stalls.
  • If a particular source fails to update, it will be moved to “disabled” state for 6 hours and will not be included in the all sources refresh process. The disabled state is listed as the source icon with a red “stop” sign over it. This is done to prevent unnecessary stalls at the sources refresh if one of the sources goes offline for whatever reason. If you’d like to retry it before 12 hour interval, open its info and hit Refresh button there.
  • Removed custom Info support as it was mostly used for unnecessary ads that were disturbing many people. These pages are normally reachable from the “More Info” link.
  • Much better error reporting. Forget these “error 3″s and such. The descriptions are much more human readable now. And for script errors, it will show an actual script command that caused an error.
  • Installer will prevent iPhone/iPod touch from sleeping when it’s downloading or installing something.
  • The app icon badge should behave better now.
  • Tons more updates/fixes...

Even Though I regularly use Cydia, I'm not sure how this new *Installer is going to fold out upon iPhone users... We can only hope for the best..

After uninstalling MobileInstallationPatch, My phone locked up..and it was an iBrick for a little while...

If this happens to you... FOLLOW THESE STEPS!!

BEFORE WE BEGIN
1.First Make sure YOU ARE NOT Connected via USB to your Mac/PC
2.Make Sure iPhone is OFF (Hold Home and Sleep/Wake button in unison for about 5 Seconds)

Step 1:
Turn Your iPod/iPhone on and LEAVE IT ON for about 15 minutes until the Screen Dims and you see dimmed boxes at the bottom of the screen. BOXES ONLY HAPPEN WITH SOME BOOT SCREENS
Step 2:
Turn the iPhone/iPod OFF
Step 3:
Then Turn it on. (DO NOT CONNECT IT TO YOUR COMPUTER YET) and in EXACTLY 5 Seconds Connect it to your Computer. It should boot up and show your Springboard.

*******NEW*** METHOD 2:
Must have ssh installed

1. turn ipod or iphone off
2. connect cable
3. turn on ipod iphone
4. listen for ding dong (window) or what ever the mac sound is
5. ssh to your ipod iphone
6. goto /var/mobile/
7. rename Applications to Applications2

9. now rename Applications back and restart

I personally had to restore my 2G 2.1 completely because of that MobileInstallationPatch...

Be sure to back up your cydia apps with APTBackup, and Backup everything onto itunes RIGHT NOW!!.... just incase..

hope this helped anyone out!!

Japan is now loving the (i) life, with the new DLP Projector attachment coming to Japan's Apple stores Dec. 1st. Texas Instruments has just released word that this new DLP projector will be able to project up to 8.5 ft away, with an image at 60" !!!..

I personally own a Viewsonic projector, and it's amazing DLP technology really throws out the True HD effect onto the wall, at an astonishing 110"...

This new product will begin selling for $500 in Japan, but there's no word released yet when it'll be available in the United States...

Well now, I know I've had my fair share of *customizing* my home screen, and trying to get my own custom theme going on, but it never really works out the way I want it to?!

Anyways, there's a new site that, well, Generates the iPhone theme for you, it's all drag and drop, and you can upload previous themes from your computer, or use the ones they give you!

It's pretty simple, and very effective...the only thing that kind of stinks is you have to SSH the new theme into your iPhone... Oh Well though!!... I guess if you really want a new theme that bad, you might as well do the work!

All you have to do is download the theme, unzip it, and SSH it into your iPhone, using WinScp or even iPhoneBrowser !!!

It looks like the Bluetooth feature is almost unlocked for the iPhone, according to the guys at ispazio.net. They recieved an e-mail from a guy claiming to have a project ongoing to unlock the Bluetooth of their iPhone, and then release to public once the bugs are worked out!

MeDevil is the developer of this Application, and he claims to have been able to search and find two other bluetooth devices from the iPhone, one being a Sony Ericsson, and the other a Hackintosh.

With new things happening every day, who knows what's next?

.

Recently, AT&T decided to offer it's customers free wifi at over 17,000 wifi hotspot locations, but it's not that easy. They would have to first "apply" for the hotspot, and get an e-mail from AT&T stating that the hotspot would be available for 24 hours. So in turn, it's actually more complicated to get onto the hotspots than they make it out to be.

A company called Devicescape has released an Application that allows those iPhone users to log onto those hotspots quickly and easily, without having to go through the process of manually joining each hotspot every time they come into contact, but rather, have the iPhone do it for them!

It's a pretty simple process, and turns out to be a great success for tons of people so far!, Leave a comment if you've used it yet!

Ralph De La Vega (SEO of AT&T), has submitted what he believes to be the future of the iPhone, at the web 2.0 summit on Wednesday. I truly believe this will happen, with just about everything he has said!

"Before the iPhone wakes you up in the morning with its alarm clock, De la Vega says, it will have already loaded all of your daily news feeds onto the phone. It will also have already sent a wireless message to your coffee maker to get the coffee ready. While you’re sitting there drinking your coffee, he says, you might decide that you’d rather read your news on the TV screen; so with a wave of the device toward the TV, de la Vega says, you’ll send your news feeds wirelessly from the phone to the TV for reading.

Now you leave the house, and use your iPhone to lock the door on the way out. You get in the car. The iPhone starts your car. On the way to work, the iPhone continues reading your news to you using its text-to-speech function.

Later on, at your office, the iPhone initiates a conference call between you and two potential customers in Japan. On the call, when you speak English, the iPhone translates it to Japanese so that your potential customers can understand you. When they answer in Japanese, the iPhone converts their speech into English so you can understand them."

I honestly do believe that the future of the iPhone will look a lot like he has stated, if not better!!. I've even been looking for a method to unlock my car via bluetooth!!. Maybe someday!

It looks as though VITO technology has just released their newest astronomy app (Star Walk). It's amazing because it shows everything that's going on in the night sky, without the telescope/ binoculars.

Their internal database supports over 9k random objects in the sky, (planets, stars/ clusters, etc..)

I believe this app is amazing for just about everyone, from amateur astronomers, to full blown astronomy experts!!. It's kept me busy in my back yard for about the past two hours now, so I figured I'd share it with some other people!! This app uses GPS technology to automatically detect where exactly you are, and determine what the night sky looks like around you!!, it's very "creative". Anyways, check it out, tell me what you think!!!

Well everyone, it looks as though AT&T has finally come to the conclusion to let it's customers be free with their devices!. 3G Tethering is officially coming to the iPhone 3G, that is, if you have a data plan through AT&T.

Michael Arrington (TechCrunch), the AT&T Mobility President, and CEO Ralph De La Vega all interviewed about Apple coming up with an agreement with AT&T to allow users to tether their iPhone 3G (use as wireless modem for laptop/desktop), but they didn't state when!!

I'm not quite sure exactly when this "plan" will surface, but i'm sure it'll be pretty pricy!, since it's been on demand since the 3G release. There is also the alternatives (when jailbroken), where you can use PdaNet as a wireless router.... This will annihilate your AT&T terms of service, but it's also free!!, and you use your prior data plan!

There is a new mobile blogging app out called iBlogger, which I find to be very useful when I don't have my desktop computer sitting on my lap in my wife's car!!.

All you have to do is download the App from the App Store, add an account (via Blogger, Blojsom, Drupal, Wordpress...etc), and you're mobile blogging!!

It's really convenient, being able to access prior posts, and add new posts, all from your iPhone!.

I personally give this a 9/10 because it's designed to intricately, the only fallback is that you cannot upload photo's via Blogger yet!!..

Leave a comment, tell me what you think!

Has there ever been that *moment* when you really needed a friend to call, so you could catch a breather?!, Have you ever been in a meeting that you needed an excuse out of?!. Well now you have that excuse!

There are various apps throughout the App Store (fake calls, exitstrategy, Phony, fake call, GottaGo), which fake a call to your iPhone, at a given programmed moment, which simulates a call (nobody on the other end), allowing you to slip out of a conversation/meeting/ awkward date, WHATEVER!!..

These Apps give you the power to change the wallpaper for caller ID, set the phone to ring, and customize the mystery caller's name. All you have to do is set a time for the call, and Voila!! You're out!

I personally haven't used it in any emergency situations, but i'm sure it'll come in handy someday!!

Well, we had reported before that the Opera Mini browser had been rejected from the App Store, but recent news states that it was never submitted in the first place, let alone having been rejected?!?!...

Earlier, I had wrote that Jon Stephenson von Tetzchner, Co-founder/ CEO of Opera told New York Times in an interview that:

"Opera’s engineers have developed a version of Opera Mini that can run on an Apple iPhone, but Apple won’t let the company release it because it competes with Apple’s own Safari browser."

With this being said, John Gruber believes that the statement by CEO of Opera might not be a direct quote by him but something that was "reworded" by New York Times reporter, Saul Hansell.

John had thought that one of the reasons the app might have gotten rejected was because Opera Mini was using its own Javascript interpreter which is not permitted by iPhone SDK's agreement. He has clarified that his speculation was wrong, after he researched to find out that Opera Mini doesn't have it's own interpreter.

He explains:

"In a nut, it works like this: You request a URL in Opera Mini. Opera Mini makes the request to a proxy server run by Opera. Opera’s proxy server connects to the web server hosting the requested URL, and renders the page into an image. This image is then transmitted (in a proprietary format called OBML — Opera Binary Markup Language) to the Opera Mini client. Opera Mini displays the rendered image on screen. This may sound convoluted, but apparently the result is very effective — it’s faster to transmit, because only OBML (a compressed binary format) is transmitted to the mobile device over the phone network, and far faster to render on slow mobile processors."

Since Opera Mini for other mobile devices is developed using Java which isn't supported on the iPhone, Opera would have to port Opera Mini to C and Objective-C APIs to be able to submit their iPhone app to the App Store.

However, even if Opera manages to develop Opera Mini for the iPhone, which abides by the iPhone's SDK agreement, there is still possibility of it getting rejected.
There has been no official statement from Apple or Opera to clarify this situation.Keep checking up on www.iphonehacksnmods.com/ and I'll keep posting as soon as I hear the latest and greatest news!!

Anybody have any ideas?!?! What do you think of this situation?

The Safari browser is without a doubt the best mobile browser i've ever used, but it's not completely perfect, and tends to crash quite often! I guess there's ton's of people dealing with this issue, so I decided to write some "fix's for it".

Apple probably fixed the Safari issues in firmware 2.2, but for us with 2.1, we're still dealing with our browser crashing quite often!

Here's some tips to help with the issue: "NOTE: these aren't permanent fixes"

1. Reboot the iPhone (Hold home & lock for about 8 seconds, until the apple logo appears, then let go), it'll reset your apps.
2. Clear the Cache, Cookies, & History. (Go to settings-> Safari-> tap Clear Cache, Clear Cookies, & Clear History.
3. Some people also say that turning off Javascript stops crashing, but i'm not too fond of surfing with Javascript off!?!?

This isn't a permanent fix for Safari crashing, but hopefully Apple has put some thought into Firmware 2.2, and we won't have to deal with this anymore!!

If your browser crashes, Comment me, and tell me if these fixes helped you at all, or if you've found a permanent method, Let me know!!!.

Recently, in the App Store, (Free RSS) popped up, catching my eye, so I decided to check it out and see what it was all about!.

You just download the App, browse any sites you regularly would (through the app), and it will come up with RSS Feed choices to add to your (Feeds).

It's pretty cool, because I like to stay on top of the Apple news, and it's getting me a lot of useful information!!..

Once again iPhone Dev has jailbroken Apple's latest iPhone firmware 10 days before it has been released...

Firmware version 2.2 Beta 1 was seeded to developers just over 2 days ago but is still succeptible to Pwnage (pwnage tool/ QuickPwn/ WinPwn).

Here is a screenshot of Terminal running on firmware 2.2 Beta 1.

The dev team has also stated that there is some sort of Daemon underlying in Firmware 2.2, and haven't yet released what it meant.... ?!?!

While this prove's the Dev-team's abilities, we're still waiting on the 3G unlock, which will prove their skills to even Steve Jobs himself!!

Every day, new things are popping up at MacRumor's: recently Firmware 2.2 updates!.

TUAW posted new screenshots of the firmware, this time it seems to reveal that Apple will allow an over the air Podcast download on the iPod Touch and iPhone.

The iPhone seems to be getting a lot more independence with Apple realizing that mobile phones can’t always download podcasts from a computer at any moment.

Apple seeded the iPhone 2.2 beta 2 to developers last week, still with no word as to what people can expect in this version.

If what we have seen so far is true it will be more than worth the wait.

There is also question that this may be the reason Apple rejected the Podcaster application.

Using iTunes 8, we're able to make our own free custom ringtones, which proved itself pretty useful to me, since i've had *Miramba* since I got my iPhone!Anyways, here's how it goes:

Using iTunes (8.0.1),
Right click on the song you are going to make into a ringer and select “Get Info.”
Go to the options tab and go down to the “Start Time” and “Stop Time” check boxes.

Check both boxes and input the time you want your ringtone to start/stop.

Click OK when you’re done.
Right click on your newly “clipped” song and select “Convert Selection to AAC.” The song will be re-encoded using the start and stop times determined (If your menu item does not read “Convert Selection to AAC” and reads “Convert Selection to MP3″ (or some other format) please go to iTunes > Preferences > Advanced > Importing and change the “Import Using” drop down menu to “AAC Encoder”).

After the song is done encoding navigate to your iTunes Music folder, locate your song, and drag it to your desktop.

After the song is on your desktop go back to iTunes and delete the clipped version from you iTunes library (It won’t delete it from your desktop, it will only remove it from iTunes).

Go back the song on your desktop and right click on your song and chose “Get info.”

Go to the name and extension section and change the extension from .m4a to .m4r (or you can just change the extension right from your desktop)
After the extension is changed simply double click on the file to add it to your iTunes library under the ringtones section.

Sync your phone with iTunes and you’re done.
I've managed to create some pretty catchy tunes, and if you have any problems, don't be shy to ask, just comment, and i'll let you know ASAP!!...

Every day, we see something new about firmware update 2.2, and now there's a way to "Rate" an Application before you hit that little (x) to delete it.

A lot of publisher's believe this won't actually show the true rating of the application, because most people will just try to hurry through it, and hit 1 if they didn't like it, or 5 if it was ok. Either way, it's probably not going to be too accurate rating developer's applications.

In my eyes, this won't help to "Rate" any application, as 98.6% of people won't truly recognize this attribute.

Many publisher's have said that the iPhone 3G has been a huge success worldwide, with a record breaking 6.9 million iPhones sold last quarter, Japan is missing out on all the action.

Some of this may be attributed to their inability to watch Live TV, streaming onto their iPhone, or Emoji icon's (icon's used in messaging), not being available. But with firmware update 2.2 on it's way, we're expected to see these Emoji icon's pop up, and a few other upgrades too!!

This TV-tuner card, may be what Japan needs to boost up their iPhone sales, and this unit is expected to be sale for around $100. It will include an internal Wi-Fi module and an external antenna for tuning into 1seg mobile broadcasting service available in Japan. The add-on card, which will also serve as an extended battery pack, will stream live television to the iPhone over Wi-Fi through an iPhone-app that will be available for free on the App Store. The TV-Tuner card add-on is expected to be slightly more compact than the iPhone but a bit thicker and lighter at about 2.8 ounces and measures approximately 2.0 x 3.5 x 0.6 inches.

Hopefully, these two things will help boost iPhone sales in Japan, but it may not be very well liked, having to carry this extra *unit* around with your iPhone. Maybe the solution will be bringing Adobe Flash to the iPhone, seeing as how some websites cannot be seen because of this, and we might just see one pop up in the app store sooner or later!

Not Quite Yet.... Apple has Rejected the Opera Mini Browser from being released into the App Store, with unknown reasons?!.

Opera Could have been better than iPhone's Safari browser, leading to the rejection, or because it was using it's own Javascript interpreter, which is unallowed by Apple SDK rules.

Maybe in the future, Mr.Saurik will release Opera Mini into Cydia, and we'll all enjoy the new browser on our jailbroken iPhones!!, but then again, we're all waiting to see what happens.

Steve Jobs probably feels as though it was direct competition to his Safari Browser, and that's probably why it was rejected.

Hopefully in the future, Cydia and Installer will release Opera Mini browser, and/or Firefox. Both being open-source, there's a lot more potential, but then again, it may be too hard to port over?!

Anyone have any ideas?

Finally, it's here. SBSettings from Cydia !!

BigBoss and Ipodtouchmaster released v0.91 of SBSettings on Cydia for download earlier today.

I finally tested the program out to see how it works and everything seems to work great!, i'm really happy with how it functions!. With an easy swipe of your finger you can bring up toggle switches to turn on/off a bunch of things. As well as there is an easy power down button that immediately shuts off the phone, respring, refresh, and the normal settings we have all grown to love.

Cydia has posted their 400th package in their 2.0 Cydia repository. They have also added better stat tracking in the repository from within.

You can view the most recent 100 apps posted at http://sleepers.net/news/sleepers-repository/newest-apps/.

So what exactly is Cydia? Cydia is an installer that will install apps—many free that are not available, for one reason or another, on Apple’s App Store—on a jailbroken iPhone or iPod touch.

Note: Jailbraking an iPhone/iPod touch may void your warranty.

You can take a screenshot of whatever you're viewing, by holding the home button, and clicking the sleep button !!!

Turns out to be pretty useful to me!!...

So, we've all been waiting for "google earth" to come to the iPhone, and now it's shown up in the App Store for FREE!!!

I love the desktop version myself, and this app completely takes full advantage of the accelerometer, and allows you to zoom-in and zoom-out to various regions, cities, countries, and oceans/lakes/ponds around the world, and it's all at the power of your fingers!!..

1. Tilt your iPhone to adjust your view to see mountainous terrain.

2. View the Panoramio layer and browse the millions of geo-located photos from around the world.

3. View geo-located Wikipedia articles.

4. Use the 'Location' feature to fly to your current location.

5. Search for cities, places and business around the globe with Google Local Search.

Check it out, tell me what you think!!!. I personally love all the new gadgets I can get for my iphone, and I love to hear comments from EVERYONE!!

So, There's now a way to use Truphone/ Skype/ or any SIP Provider using your 3G/EDGE Connection on your iPhone...It's forbidden by Apple's SDK Rules, but it saves a lot of money, so WHO CARES?!?!!!

I Disconnected my (minutes plan) from T-mobile, and now I pay $29.95 for unlimited data via 3G/Edge connection, (on my unlocked/jailbroken iPhone 8gb 3g), Skype charges me $2.95 a month for 10,000 minutes, and I use Yahoo Messaging via *Fring* for my SMS carrier!! You can signup with Skype by CLICKING HERE !!!

It's amazing, instead of paying $80+ per month, i'm paying about $36 with taxes!!(assuming you are running a jailbroken iPhone)

1. Go Into Cydia

2. Navigate to Sections-> System

3. Select the VoIPover3G package, or TrickerThreeG ... either will work!!

4. Download one, and YOU'RE DONE!!!

Now, you'll want to search the internet for SIP Providers to use over your 3G/Edge connection, and find the one that suits you best!!.. I personally love Skype because it doesn't lag, and sounds just as good, if not better than my T-mobile Voice did!!

Sign up for an SIP Provider/Skype/Truphone, and then download Fring/Truphone onto your iPhone via App Store. You should be able to link your SIP/Skype to Fring, and Truphone is self-explanatory!!

All you have to do now is open truphone/ fring and you should be able to make VoIP calls over 3g / edge connection!!.

A simple reboot may be needed, didn't for me!!!

Hope this saves everybody else money!!! Have an iPhone-tastic day!!

What does this mean?!.

The iPhone hack/ dev team has managed to get 1 step closer to the iPhone 3g unlock.

They have managed to hack the baseband of the 3g, which allows them to *edit* the hardware to SIM unlock the phone (or allow carrier's other than AT&T).

It's only a matter of time to when the iPhone 3g is unlocked, so Subscribe via e-mail, and we'll keep you updated on the unlock !!

So, many of us have tons of applications on our iPhone, and we love the little hacks and mods that we can do to it, so whenever applications come up *that are free*, in the app store, or cydia releases something *amazing*, we have to download it!!

Now, there's a way to sort things out with all those apps, and it's called Quickgold.

It allows easy app switching, launching, and best of all, you can keyboard your search, FOR YOUR OWN APPS!!..

It's very convenient when you are at the home screen, and want to find an app without scrolling around.

Two nights ago, the latest update of iPhone firmware 2.2 beta 2 Apple decided to finally release an amazing feature called Google Streetview.

For those who don’t know, Google Streetview is the feature of Google Maps that allow the user to see all angles of a street as if they were on the road itself. You can travel your route in a virtual car and analyze pictures of your surroundings so you know what it looks like before you even get there.

As well as it looks there is also the feature to give you walking directions, bus routes, and even local bus schedules! The ability to map out our destinations gets easier and easier everyday!

So, now there's a way to make voip calls over edge, using the iPhone !!!

Whether you're using T-Mobile / AT&T / Cingular ... or any other GSM network that uses the EDGE network, you're in luck .... because your iPhone has the capability to make calls using that cheap internet connection !!!

1. Go into Cydia
2. Go to Search, and search for (Voipover3G, or TrickerThreeG)
3. Install either one of those ...
4. Signup with a voip provider (Skype is by far the best !!)
--- You can signup with Skype by CLICKING HERE , it's $2.95 a month for 10,000 minutes!!
5. Download the (Skype) app through the App Store
6. Open the App , enter your account information, from when you signed up..
7. You're all set to use Voip over EDGE using an iPhone !!!

That's it ! Now, you officially have 10,000 minutes a month .... for only $2.95 a month!!! , AND, when you're in wi-fi ... you can use Skype to make calls, and save your t-mobile or at&t minutes!

About 5 months ago, I had a Windows mobile smartphone, and loved to customize/customize/customize, but it started to look old, bulky, and outdated compared to the new iPhone...

Eventually, I started saving up for one (about $300), and looked everywhere, but couldn't find the "virgin" that I had been trying for.... You know, not the iPhone that the 14 year old boy had bought just to hack the system, mod the hardware, and then sell to you *as new*, but that iPhone the doctor bought for his on-call time, but never really used...

That wasn't working out too amazing, so I started searching on www.craigslist.com/ and started finding these classifieds for the 8gb & 16gb 3g iPhone for like $200-$300 IN MY AREA, so of course, I was hounding these people to get the new iPhone 3g, (keep in mind, these things sell for $600-$900 unlocked on ebay), and nobody was ever returning my e-mails..
Suddenly, I started recieving all this spam, and so I started searching for people that had pictures attached, with phone numbers, and FINALLY I FOUND ONE!!!. It was located about an hour away from me, and the rain was coming down pretty hard, so I decided to call the guy, tell him i'd be there in an hour, with $275, and he chose to hold onto it while I was coming...

I just bought this new car, with bald front tires, and took off to get my new iPhone, got up to highway speeds, and went to go around a large turn when my car just kept sliding forward, instead of turning.....so I had to go back....

Finally, I went to my wife's office, borrowed her car, and as I was walking out the door, a guy that i had met 3 months prior came running up (while it's still pouring rain), and said he was selling a new iPhone...so I asked how much, and he said $200....I called the guy I was getting my phone from, told him to sell it to someone else, and bought this virgin iPhone.....and ever since then...I'm an addict!!!

When you buy a used iPhone, make sure all aspects of the screen work properly...and make sure there aren't any dead spots... IT STINKS!!

It's not that hard to get it jailbroken, and unlocked (easy hacks) and when that's complete, use Cydia to install all of the applications that you want...or get free apps from the app store!!!I learned how to cut my bill down, using t-mobile, WAY DOWN, (skype), and learned how to make this thing into EVERYTHING I WANTED..It's my modem for internet (for my computer), my phone, e-mail, mobile internet, youtube device, mp3 player, GPS Navigation unit....AND SO MUCH MORE!!!..In my eyes, everyone should have an iPhone!!!....(with t-mobile)

Hope I helped any *non*believers

It's a pretty simple process, I personally hate it when ad's slow down my surfing experience, so here's the step-by-step hack to making those pesky ad's go away!!

1.You need to be able to transfer files to your iPhone, so you can either install OpenSSH application using Cydia or use iPhone software like iPhoneBrowser (for Windows), or Winscp (for windows also).

2.Then go to Settings -> Wi-Fi, click on arrow next to the Wi-Fi server you are currently using on your iPhone and write down the IP address.

3.If you are not using iPhone software like iPhoneBrowser to transfer files from your computer to your iPhone and vice versa, then you will need and FTP client with SFTP (secure SSH connection over FTP). Windows users can try FileZilla while Mac users can use Cyderduck.

4.Download the replacement host file from this link. (Please note that the host file downloaded from this link will also disable Apple's kill-switch mechanism to deactivate iPhone apps). Note: If you want to use the Categories App, then please remove the 127.0.0.1 mm.admob.com line from the downloaded replacement host file, otherwise mentioned by reader, Zai, it will not work. If you don't want to disable Apple's kill-switch mechanism then remove this line as well 127.0.0.1 iphone-services.apple.com from the replacement host file.

5.Open your FTP client, set it to connect over an SFTP connection, and then put your iPhone's IP address (the one your had written down in step 2) in the "host" section. The username and password (unless you changed them) are root and alpine, respectively. The connection may take a few minutes at first, and you may be asked to accept a host key; say yes to any prompts. In case the connection fails try again.

6.Take a backup of the host file on your iPhone before you override the host file. You will find it in /etc folder at your iPhone's root directory.

7.After taking the backup, replace the host file on your iPhone with the replacement host file you had downloaded in step 4.

8.Close your FTP client and restart your iPhone.

PDA Net proves to be very useful to tether the iPhone wirelessly to your computer via wifi... it's a very simple process, with no SOCKS involved...,

Install PdaNet via Cydia (for jailbroken iPhones)After installation of PdaNet on your iphone follow these steps:

Step 1 - Set-up an adhoc wireless network your laptop. Depending on what OS (XP/Vista or some Apple OS) you are using each is different.

Step 2 - From your laptop ask to connect to your new adhoc network.

Step 3 - On your iphone go to settings WiFi and conect to the same adhoc network.

Step 4 - Start-up PDA-Net application on the iPhone and turn on the WiFi Router button on the bottom of the screen.

Step 5 - Enjoy real tetheringIf it still won't work, from the PC disconnect and reconnect to the adhoc network.I personally use this everyday, with my desktop Windows XP Pro....It'll save you a lot of money over time!!!

So everyone, I've been wondering when this was coming out just like all of you, and FINALLY!!, it's here...Backgrounder (found in Cydia- jailbroken iphone's) allows you to run applications in the background, by pressing and holding the home button while in an application..., whereas we could not before.

It proved itself useful to me when I use Fring over EDGE/3G, because it's constantly runing, and doesn't waste battery life!!Anyways, i've tested it out myself, and it works awesome for making mine a modem for my computer, and installing things via Cydia at the same time!!...

The iPhone Dev Team had released the Pwnage Tool v2.1 and QuickPwn v1.1 to jailbreak and unlock the 1st Gen iPhone and jailbreak iPhone 3G running iPhone firmware 2.1 almost immediately after it was released by Apple.

They have now released their QuickPwn v2.1 for Windows users that supports iPhone firmware 2.1.

The latest version of the QuickPwn v1.1 for Windows users can be used to jailbreak and unlock the 1st generation iPhone running firmware 2.1. It can also jailbreak iPhone 3G running iPhone firmware 2.1.You cannot Unlock the 3G with this yet, or jailbreak 2nd gen iPod Touch, so please don't try! Here's the link for QuickPwn: http://www.technoh.net/forums/Downloads/QuickPwn/QuickPwn21-1.zip

  1. Upgrade to iTunes 8.0

  2. Sync your iPhone with iTunes, backup your data

  3. Download the 2.1 from : http://sleepers.net/news/blank/iphone-firmware-files/

  4. From iTunes, hold shift and hit restore

  5. After iTunes restores your phone with 2.1 firmware, and comes back up for activation, launch Quickpwn 2.1-1

  6. Select the installed 2.1 ipsw from the screen

  7. Select the bootloaders, hit next

  8. Follow the Quickpwn instructions, and there's your Unlocked 2.1 iPhone!!!

Just don't forget to backup your iPhone before restoring, it's a BIG LOSS!!

So as you all may know, the new iPhone 3g comes with built in GPS capability, but all of our old 1st and 2nd gen iPhones DON'T HAVE THAT?!?!?!

Well, these guys call themselves Orange Gadgets, and they're offering a dongle to hook up to the usb port on the iphone, which enables GPS capabilities!!...

They'll be selling it for $75 plus shipping, and it'll give everyone else another reason to buy an iPhone..Here's their link, if you're interested !!! http://www.orangegadgets.com/index.html

This unit require's no special hacks, mods, upgrades, or cracks as far as I know!!!

So, as you all may know, the Dev team is one step closer to unlocking (hack to allow use of non-AT&T sim-cards in iPhone) the 3g iPhone....Whereas many other's have used another method to unlock the hardware, called "SIM Unlock" or "the dirty method".....

Basically, if you don't know a whole lot about the iPhone, or you're new to hacking, there are 2 sides to hacking this device...Firstly, Jailbreaking is where they get into the Operating System (computer side of iphone), and allow us to have write/read access to the file system. This also allows us to install applications that aren't in the App Store!!... Very handy

Secondly , Unlocking is hacking the Cellular side of the phone, and allow to use other types of service providers, besides AT&T...Many users love t-mobile's service!!

The dev team already figured out the Jailbreak side of this process, now we wait while they keep trudging toward an unlocked 3G!!!

Hopefully, Jobs will drop the price of the new 3g right before christmas, and we all can get our t-mobile service on the 3g network with a sweet new iPhone!!!

So, now there is a patch that users can Winscp into their iPhone to allow use of Fring over their Edge/3g data connection...I can't tell you where to get the patch, but here's the instructions on how to use it!!:

1.You must be running a Jailbroken iPhone / iTouch
2.Install original Fring on iPhone via iTunes App Store.
3.Now SSH into your iPhone / iTouch; remember root / alpine
4.Find Fring.app under root var/mobile/applications
5.To find the Fring.app, you then need to click on the most recently installed folder which will be your original Fring and inside should be the Fring.app
6.On your computer, rename the modified 3g Fring .api to .zip; it will now open in winzip or mac compatible unzipper e.g. zipeg
7.Delete the original Fring.app on your iPhone / iTouch
8.Copy the extracted 3g Fring.app from the zip folder across to your iPhone / iTouch either via the WinSCP (PC) or Yummy FTP (Mac).
9.Now you need to set the permissions. This is easy so please do make it more complcated for yourselves. ALL the files within the 3g Fring.app replacement must be set to 755 (Yummy) or 0755 (WinSCP). You should see all the files being altered as it goes through the process of changing the permissions.

When I tried it, it worked immediately after changing the permissions without a reboot but if it does not work then please reboot the iPhone.Good luck everyone!!

Looking to save a few of your T-Mobile minutes ??
Can't stand only having 400 minutes a month with AT&T ??

We have a solution !!! You'll be able to get 10,000 minutes a month.... for $2.95 !!!

Basically, you'll need a Jailbroken iPhone , and we'll set it up for wifi calling !!!

It doesn't matter if you have an iPhone 2G or iPhone 3G .... either way, your iPhone will be set up so you can use it for wifi calling!!!

First off, what we're going to do is go into Cydia , and download (TrickerThreeG, and / or, Voipover3G) ....

Next, you're going to want to sign up with a VOIP service provider.... (my personal preference is Skype, because they have thousands of servers, and it's RARE that you get anything less than perfect calling....) To sign up with Skype, click here!

Now, what you're going to do is download the Skype app, from the app store.... open the app, and type in your account information (username/password) , and from there on out, you should be all set up to make wifi calls with your iPhone !!!

This is BY FAR the easiest way to get your iPhone 3G wifi calling , rolling !!!

So, I was surfing through the App Store today, and ran across this *FREE* App that I thought was pretty cool.

MixMeister Scratch-

  • Allows you to scratch anywhere, anytime, with the song's in your library.

  • Comes with authentic vinyl scratch sounds.

  • Allows you to control the song's volume

  • Apple Approved!!

To get started, all you have to do is pick a song (in your library), play it, select the scratch, and go to town!!. It's pretty cool for being *FREE*, and has occupied my time for about 30 minutes now!!

It looks like Walmart has hopped on the "Apple" bandwagon, and released an iPhone-ready web site that's almost fully functional.

When people hop over to www.wal-mart.com/ they'll be automatically redirected to an "iPhone" style of the web site if they're on an iPhone.
After you're on the site, you can check out products, or services, on an intricate site. You can see online products, as well as the stores that have your item in stock.

The only "downside" is that you can't buy stuff on the iPhone site, and get redirected to the normal www.wal-mart.com/ to purchase items.
You can check out the site, and find the store that's closest to you, all through the "iPhone ready" site. Check it out, and let me know what you think!!.

Today, FastMac announced that their extended battery pack/ flash pack for the iPhone/ iPhone 3G is now shipping out!!. They call the add-on pack for the iPhone (iV), and it makes for a *WAY* longer battery life, and add's on a camera flash!!, something we've been all waiting for!.

The battery pack will give you up to 24 hours of talk time/ 72 hours of music/ 20 hours of video/ & 31 days of standby time, as well as a Flash Light for emergency use and darker photos, and an extra USB port to charge more than 1 device
This Battery pack/ flash pack is available for $79.95 from FastMac, and sounds like a great invention!!

Well it turns out that the creator of Ziphone (Piergiorgio Zambrini) discovered a bug with the iPhone that causes the phone's operating system to crash when playing a specially-created video. This bug affects the audio track of the video, which in return kills the operating system on the iPhone.

Zambrini said that the bug doesn't damage the iPhone internally, and he's waiting to contact Apple's security response team. An Apple spokesman was informed of this bug, from Forbes.com, and they're still waiting for a comment?!

It's pretty obvious that Zambrini can't stay away from the (iPhone spotlight), even though he's raking in $10,000 a day from Ziphone, and $4000 a month from ad's on his site. He even e-mailed Steve Jobs about the situation, and put in an application at the same time, but hasn't heard anything from Apple as of yet.

I thought it was funny that he goes and throws this *error* in Apple's face, and then ask's for employment... YEAH RIGHT?!?!

Forbes.com now says that he's not trying to work for Apple, but rather, continue on his iPhone unlocking tool!!!
You never know who's going to get in the spotlight next??

Look's as though two of Apple's Vice President's (iPod division senior vice president Tony Fadell and his wife, Danielle Lambert, vice president of human resources) are downgrading their status at Apple, to spend more time with the "family".

They've both been with Apple for a while, but they're not going too far away from home!!.With these two gone, ex- IBM chip executive Mark Papermaster will be bringing his 20+ years of experience from IBM to Apple, along with a huge lawsuit!!Looks like he's got himself a rough road in the near future!, as IBM said in a statement to CNET that "Mr. Papermaster's employment by Apple is a violation of his agreement with IBM against working for a competitor should he leave IBM. We will vigorously pursue this case in court."

It all comes down to the competition!

Turns out AT&T has come up with a banking application for the App Store, which allows you to check savings/ checking/ pay bills/ and much more!!

Over 50 different banks are participating, in this new (Mobile Banking on AT&T), including Wachovia, SunTrust, and USAA.

I personally don't use any of these banks, but I can imagine it's pretty handy when you want to pay bills on the go, see balances in accounts, or transfer money!

All it takes is a quick "sign up" with your bank's website, and you should have to enter your iPhone number, pick a PIN, authorize it, and you're good to go!!
I think it's a nifty idea, but with all the bank's dying out lately, i'm buying gold bricks! Tell me what you think!!

Well, i've been searching around for a while now, and finally stumbled across something that got my attention!. You can download cracked (.ipa) apps on your iPhone via your iPhone, with Installous & App Share.

Please keep in mind that this isn't very helpful to developer's of our App Store apps, and you should definitely buy an app that you cling to (after all, you did spend the $300 on the iPhone, $.99 won't hurt!!), if you think it's worth buying!!. We all have to remember that developer's get paid to publish these apps, not for people to steal them!!.

I can only post the method you should go about doing this, I cannot include any links to sites where you can get these cracked (.ipa) apps, but they're everywhere on google!!

First of all, you have to be running a Jailbroken iPhone, if you don't know how to jailbreak, click here.
Go to Cydia and uninstall the Safari Download Plugin if you have it installed.
While in Cydia, add this source: http://cydia.hackulo.us
While still in Cydia, install “Installous” and “AppShare
Quit Cydia
Reboot your iPhone

There should now be 2 new icons on your springboard, a green and a blue one!!. Open AppShare and you should see the different sources of cracked ipa's. Pick one (Appulo.us and Monkey's Ball don't seem to work for anyone!?). Browse through the applications, click "install" on the one you want, and it should be all done!!.

Sometime's, people have reported that the app crashes when installing an ipa, but i'm not fully aware of this situation, so feel free to leave any comments of any troubles you may have!!

This should be all you need to get it done!!. And please remember, you're doing this at your own risk!!, don't come back to me if anything happens that isn't supposed to!!
